15 movies I want to see before Christmas
1) Burn After Reading (Sept. 12): Has Malkovich ever done a Coen Bros. movie?
2) Lakeview Terrace (Sept. 19): Neil LaBute and Samuel L. Jackson remake “Unlawful Entry.”
3) Miracle at St. Anna (Sept. 26): The screenwriter went to Oberlin.
4) How to Lose Friends and Alienate People (Oct. 3)
5) What Just Happened (Oct. 3): The making of “The Edge,” with Bruce Willis as Alec Baldwin.
6) W. (Oct. 17): Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Cheney. No John McGinley though.
7) Changeling (Oct. 24): Based on the amazing Winevile Chicken Murders: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wineville_Chicken_Murders . Not sure why Ellroy didn’t ever write about this fine moment in LAPD history.
8) Synecdoche, New York (Oct. 24)
9) The Road (Nov. 14): McCarthy understands the Southwest better than any other writer.
10) The Soloist (Nov. 21): Steve Lopez makes $300,000 per year as a newspaper columnist in 2008 and is portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. in this movie. Lucky guy.
11) Four Christmases (Nov. 26): Directed by Seth Gordon, the guy who made “The King of Kong.”
12) Milk (Nov. 26): The most famous City Supervisor ever. Gus Van Sant has made a lot of good movies lately.
13) Frost/Nixon (Dec. 5): I really liked “The Queen.”
14) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (Dec. 25): I’ll gladly pay to see anything made by the guy who directed “The Game.”
15) Gran Torino (Dec. TBA): Clint Eastwood plays a guy named Walt Kowalski in this one.
